With 16 family members owning and operating a collection of successful, family-oriented residential board and care homes since 1974, the Sabankaya Family brings to the table almost 50 years of compassion, understanding, and hard-earned experience to Riviera.

To date, the family cares for 226 clients in downtown San Jose, including the Victorians on North 5th Street and Ali Baba Corp (dba Riviera) Villa and Club on South 11th Street.

In addition to owning and operating its residential care homes, in 2002 the family collaborated with Santa Clara County Behavioral Health to design and operate an innovative bridge program known as EVP. The purpose of the 72-bed pilot program was to address the community’s rising rates of institutional recidivism by “bridging” the gap between institutionalization and independent living within the community. The EVP pilot program’s novelty led in its creative combination of residential and clinical services under one roof, allowing EVP to stabilize previously institutionalized individuals with severe and chronic mental illness and empower them with life skills needed to remain out in the community.

The Sabankaya’s operated the bridge program through the year 2014, when the County repurposed the EVP facility as a crisis center.

Riviera Villa and Riviera Club are located across the street from one another in the heart of the esteemed Naglee Park District of San Jose, California. The Bonny Doon House is located on Bonny Doon Road, a magical place overlooking the Pacific Ocean within the Santa Cruz Mountains. Just 40 minutes’ drive from Riviera Villa & Riviera Club, clients and staff can come here for overnight camping or day trips. With the fresh, cool ocean breeze and morning fog rolling in through its 14 acres of dense giant redwood forest and year-around creek, the Bonny Doon House is a fairy-tale like place ideal for self-care, relaxation, and reconnecting with the peace and beauty of nature. Aside from its natural attributes, clients and staff enjoy its large swimming pool, hot tub, courtyard with brick pizza oven and large fireplaces. They can also enjoy the wildlife while taking meditative strolls through its established gardens of fruit trees, flowers, and vegetables.

The Mt. Shasta Horse Ranch is 40 miles south of the Oregon border and 5.5 hours’ north of Riviera Villa and Riviera Club. Towering 14,179 ft above the ranch is the majestic Mt Shasta, which is snowcapped year-around. Because the ranch sits at a range of 3,000-8,000 ft elevation, it enjoys all four seasons, with trees assuming glorious colors in the fall and plenty of white glistening snow to play in during winter months. This property is special for so many reasons, but even more so for the Sabankaya’s world-known herd of 300 Arabian horses that roam naturally among its 800+ acres of forests, meadows, and rugged mountain terrain. Clients can camp out in our campsite with fish-filled lakes, streams, and cold mountain springs, every season brings a new wonder of nature.
